This lecture is the first in a series of four - Part 2 is on the 21st October, Part 3 on the 27th October and the last is on the 15th November. This lecture looks at how to value property which is suitable for development or refurbishment. In particular it examines:
- The difference between a development appraisal, residual valuation, feasibility study, viability study and a comparable valuation
- The different between land speculation and property development
- Risk management and the necessity for profit
- The various purposes for which such studies are undertaken for whom and by whom
- What is considered good practice? What guidance is available?
- What data you require before you start such an exercise and who should provide it?

- The detailed breakdown and build up of development costs
- The profit margin and other outputs

He has updated and edited Anstey’s Party Walls and The Party Wall Surveyors Manual both published by RICS Books, is involved in the redrafting of the RICS’S Guidance Note on the subject and edited the excellent book “The Party Wall Act Explained ” published by The Pyramus & Thisbe Club.
